Ton of refrigeration

According to ASHARE a ton of refrigeration is defined as the quantity of heat to be removed in order to form one ton (2000 lbs ) of ice at 0'c in 24 hrs , from liquid water at 0 °c .

1 TR = 12600KJ/hr

1ton of refrigeration= 3025 kcal

Coefficient of performance

The performance of the refrigeration system is expressed as COP which is the ratio of refrigerating effect produced to the worker of compression.

Relative humidity

The relative humidity can be expressed by the following equation: R.H. = vapour pressure/saturation vapour pressure × 100.

Cryogen

A substance for obtaining low temperature refrigerant called cryogen

Brine

A brine solution is a highly concentrated salt water solution, usually made up of sodium chloride or calcium chloride.

Dew point Temperature

The dew point is the temperature the air needs to be cooled to (at constant pressure) in order to achieve a relative humidity (RH) of 100%.

Psychrometric

Psychrometrics is the study of the physical and thermodynamic properties of air and water vapor mixtures.
